SAKP asks both camps to settle issues
GUWAHATI, June 4: The State administration has been virtually paralysed due to the ongoing fight between the pro–Gogoi and anti–Gogoi camps, which has now prompted the Sadau Asom Karmachari Parishad (SAKP) to ask both the camps to settle their issues at the earliest possible so that the administration could run smoothly.
‘‘From March there was poll code of conduct, as a result of which for two months there was no meaningful work. We understand this. But we hoped that after the installation of the new government at the Centre, work would gear up in the State. However, work in the State has slowed down further. This is very unfortunate for the State. Both the camps must settle their issues as early as possible,’’ said SAKP general secretary Basab Kalita while talking to The Sentinel.
Kalita also said that a section of officials had been taking advantage of the tussle going on in the State Congress. ‘‘In fact these officials have kept some important files pending. They are confused as to which ministers would go where. As a result, they do not want to take any risk. On the other hand, MLAs are also part of the government. They can to go to Delhi and ventilate their feelings. But when they are back to the State, they should go to their constituencies and work,’’ he added.
For the last two days, in every room of the Secretariat, the subject of discussion has been whether Gogoi would stay or quit and who would be the new Chief Minister. In fact the discussion has revolved around the fate of Himanta Biswa Sarma if Gogoi stays.
When asked about the views of government employees, Kalita said, ‘‘It is not the concern of government employees as to who will be the new Chief Minister if Gogoi quits and who will be other ministers. Our concern is that the government should be stable and the administration should run smoothly so that the common people are benefited.’’
Not just government employees, even other people, including businessmen, bank officers etc, are wondering as to what turn the State Congress will take and what will be the shape of the State government in the future. A section of the media has also confused the people of the State. ‘‘All these are definitely not good signs. Sooner there is a course correction in the State Congress, better will it be for one and all in the State,’’ said Kalita.
