Self–immolation unfortunate: DGP

GUWAHATI, February 25: “Pranab Boro’s self–immolation on Monday is an unfortunate incident. Though there has been incidents of self–immolation in other States of the country, Monday’s incident is the first of its kind in Assam,” said Assam DGP Khagen Sarma in the sidelines of an event here in Guwahati on Tuesday.

Regarding FIR against KMSS president Akhil Gogoi on charges that he instigated the self–immolation, Sarma said, “Police would investigate the incident thoroughly and digital and other evidences would be checked very minutely.”

He also said that when a protest or an agitation is staged in an organised way, then the police is always ready to tackle such untoward incidents.

“But when self–immolation is impromptu, it is difficult to stop such incidents,” Sarma added.
