Will AGP–BJP tie–up be a reality?

NEW DELHI, February 24: A possible AGP–BJP tie up in Assam ahead of the coming general elections has raised the level of political arithmetic in the national capital on Monday.

Rumours are doing the rounds that AGP president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta has sent two of his emissaries — Atul Bora (junior) and Kamala Kalita — to Delhi to have a meeting with BJP’s Assam in–charge SS Ahluwalia.

“This is all rumour. We did not have any meeting with Ahluwalia,” said Bora when asked about the reported meeting. The AGP leader even denied that he has any clue on the issue.

When contacted, senior BJP leader Bijaya Chakraborty said that she too does not have any knowledge about any such meeting. As many as 11 non–Congress and non–BJP parties including AGP will meet in Delhi on Tuesday to chalk out their strategy.

Sources in the Left Front said that AGP leader Biren Baishya is supposed to attend the meeting at Chanakyapuri. Interestingly, as many as six AGP leaders including Birendra Prasad Baishya, Kumar Deepak Das, Phani Bhusan Choudhary, Keshab Mahanta, Pradip Hazarika and Durga Das Bodo are presently campaigning in Delhi.
