You can. And it is quite easy. In fact, much easier than “psychologists” believe.

Personally, I don’t care about “what psychologists believe we should feel” — there is a bunch of ridiculous ideas. What important to me is an ability to rationally utilise all your capabilities to achieve your desired outcomes.

Being controlled by emotions means being reactive, not proactive. And this means being not effective and not able to achieve your goals.
