Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them: A Great Movie For Everyone
Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them has been dominating the box office for three weeks since it’s premiere on Nov. 18. It has grossed $607.9 million and J.K. Rowling can add another successful movie to her long list of achievements.
The movie is an adaption of J.K Rowling’s book Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. It takes place decades before Harry Potter, located in America, and is brought to life under the direction of David Yates who was responsible for the last four Harry Potter movies. Starring Eddie Redmayne who plays the role of Newt Scamander, a Magizoologist, the movie is set in New York City in 1926.
Newt Scamander just finished traveling around the world to find, save, and document magical creatures. He arrives in New York for a brief stop but finds himself getting into more trouble than he bargained for. A No-Maj, which is the American version of a Muggle, named Jacob and him switch cases. Unfortunately for both Jacob, Newt, and New York City, they don’t notice until Jacob releases all of the fantastic beasts. However, bigger problems and much darker forces are at work in New York, that could start a war between the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.
Newt Scamander — played by Eddie Redmayne, Newt Scamander is a Magizoologist who wants to educate the wizarding world on fantastic beasts and why they are important and need to be protected. Newt goes on to write one of the most important textbooks at Hogwarts: Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them.
Porpentina Goldstein — played by Katherine Waterston, known as Tina, she is located in New York and works for MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America). She was demoted from her position as investigator and seeks to desperately gain it back.
Queenie Goldstein — played by Alison Loren Sudol, she is Tina’s younger sister and also a Legilimens (mind-reader). She also works for MACUSA at a desk job.
Jacob Kowalski — played by Dan Folger, he is a No-Maj who gets thrust into a magical world by accident when he swaps cases with Newt.
Percival Graves — played by Colin Farrell, Percival is the Director of Magical Security and plays a key role in the movie.
Credence — played by Ezra Miller, he is the adopted child of Mary Lou, who is the leader of The Second Salemers, a group who wants to eliminate magic and wizards and witches. Abused under her strict rules, Credence longs to be a part of the Wizarding World which makes him susceptible to the manipulation of Percival Graves.
The Fantastic Beasts — these creatures really do steal the show as Newt runs around New York City trying to recapture them all and bring them to safety before someone else gets to them.
Overall, Fantastic Beasts is a great movie that the whole family will enjoy seeing. Very different from the Harry Potter movies, but still bringing you that wonderful element of a magical world, this series is another masterpiece that J.K. Rowling has created. The first movie of a five part series, can’t wait to see what comes next.
