7 Things on my Not-To-Do List
Aaron Nelson

In an attempt to quiet down the never ending thinking in my head and get some sleep, I stopped following the news in 2010. I never looked back.

Sometimes I will find myself around the coffee machine when someone says something like “what a horrible tragedy in (fill out a country or place where apparently something happened), don’t you think?” and I usually just smile or nod. I smile a lot to people. They seem to like it. I’ll keep doing it. It prevents a lot of conversation some people feel they have to have because they’re afraid of awkward silences, or because they are just looking for that — a friendly smile, a reminder that they are real and recognized in the world as a fellow human being.
