I’m not the expert in the area of Diversity and Inclusion but this topic has been on my mind lately. We all know diversity is a critical part of successful business, and can include gender, ethnic and cultural, thought, geographic representation, disabilities, etc. In addition to doing the right thing, we have heard the financial importance of diversity (McKinsey Study 2018).

On a personal level, Roselinde Torres, former senior partner at BCG (What it takes to be a great leader) states that one of the key leadership traits is dependent on the diversity of network. As I reflected on this topic, I started to wonder about good quantitative way to measure diversity. In my case, I looked at the LinkedIn network to quickly identify gaps and strength within the network.

Wouldn’t it be cool if Jeff Weiner @ LinkedIn came up with a diversity score based on our network considering various dimensions? For example, we can look at gender balance, countries represented, backgrounds in industry (healthcare, IT/Tech, Investment, consulting, etc), years of experience, educational background (humanities, STEM, business), etc..This will help leaders be aware as they consume more information from their network, asking for opinions, etc.
