Trump, Walker and Harvey
In anticipation of a win by Scott Walker (R) in tomorrow’s gubernatorial election, President Donald J. Trump lavished praise on the Wisconsin Governor.
In a comment tweeted a little after 20:30, Trump wrote, “Scott Walker of Wisconsin is a Governor who has done incredible things for that Great State. He has my complete & total Endorsement! He brought the amazing Foxconn to Wisconsin with its 15,000 Jobs-and so much more. Vote for Scott on Tuesday in the Republican Primary!”
There is a good chance Trump did this to remind Walker where his place is in the Republican pecking order.
Don’t forget the home state for iconic American motorcycle manufacturer Harvey Davidson is Wisconsin. Walker has indicated he will not defend the manufacturer against the president’s attacks. It is clear Trump appreciates Walker’s spinelessness because the president would not have penned such a glowing tweet if the Wisconsin Governor had gone to the plate to bat for Harvey Davidson.
According to Trump, Walker is a “tremendous Governor.” Despite this “tremendous” tweet, the motorcycle manufacturer’s employees might not agree with the sugarcoating the president has heaped on their state’s governor.
The tweet Trump put out this evening comes on the heels of a tweeted comment the president wrote yesterday morning explicitly targeting Harvey Davidson for a boycott campaign.
Even though Trump tweeted, “Many @harleydavidson owners plan to boycott the company if manufacturing moves overseas. Great! Most other companies are coming in our direction, including Harley competitors. A really bad move! U.S. will soon have a level playing field, or better,” there is no evidence suggesting what the president wrote is accurate.
In a comment tweeted a little after 16:00, Walker backed up the president’s tweet from yesterday with one of his own.
The Wisconsin Governor wrote, “As I said yesterday, I want Harley-Davidson to prosper here in the State of WI — so of course I don’t want a boycott of Harley-Davidson. And one of the best ways for that to happen is to do what the President has called for and that is get to no tariffs as soon as possible.”
Four and a half hours later, Trump tweets his sugarcoated comment. As previously indicated, Walker evidently knows his place in the era of Trump.
