The conversation continues as Twitter users respond to Disney casting

In early July of this year, Walt Disney Studios announced who they have chosen to portray Ariel in their live adaptation of the 1989 animated feature The Little Mermaid: actress and singer Halle Bailey who is best known for projects such as the Freeform original series Grownish as well as a singing career with her sister Chloe as the duo “Chloe x Halle”. However, quickly after the casting, controversy began to form as to whether or not it was fair to cast a black actress to play the role of Ariel, who is depicted as white in the original film.
