This is a wonderful article — thank you. I’m not a gamer, but I’m active in fandoms like Star Trek and Star Wars, and I’m planning on doing my Ph.D dissertation on the way male gatekeeping behaviors in fandom operate to silence women, particular young women who are new to a fandom. I am very much looking forward to your article on differentiating between awkward/autistic/smiling monster, and after class today I intend to search for anything else you’ve written on this subject.

Keep up the good work! As in any situation where there is inequality, things only change when those in a position of privilege use their privilege to point out the problem and call others to action. Thank you for adding your voice to ours.
