My name is Shannon. I am ShannonThink.

Soon I will have my blog website up and running at shannonthink.com

Let me tell you a little bit about myself.

I am an introvert by nature. I find it nerve racking to go out in public and meet / interact with new people, heck any people. Fortunately, I have a lot of experience speaking in public.

The blog format allows me to ‘speak’ out without really having to go out in public — yay! So, you will see me, but I don’t like to put myself out there — I do not want the spotlight, the ‘15 minutes of fame’. No thanks, I’m good.

Moving on.

I am originally from the Chicago-land area. Actually, the Wisconsin — Illinois border north of the city, near Antioch and Kenosha.

I joined the Navy right out of high school. I was smart and they promised me good money and fast promotion. At the time it meant a signing bonus and getting away from my parents, stat. I was a Reactor Operator on a nuclear powered aircraft carrier.

Fast forward 10.5 years later, 4 cars, 5 moves, 3 promotions, a demotion, and a husband later, I happily departed from the service. I started my marriage and career in radiation monitoring in Connecticut. We had a son and decided to moved to Virginia, a place we were familiar with.

We have been living in Chesapeake, Virginia since late 2015. Besides the heat, I love this area. I am also working in the same field I started out in when I joined the Navy and I feel grateful that it is a stable job.

I left a couple things out, of course. You will have to stick around to find out more.

I will give you one more tidbit about me…because this one thing I really do love to share! I have a LOT of tattoos.

I got my first tattoo right after boot camp…and I was hooked, obsessed.

In the picture here, you can see me and the rose with my name underneath. I had that tattoo refreshed after about 25 years.

If you look closely I have a full sleeve on the other arm. More details on that later!

Since I have taken that picture (over 2 and a half years ago), I have completed much more work on my left arm as well.

Final Thoughts

I have a lot of opinions, but one thing that really bothers me is when people spout their opinions and ideas as if they are facts and expect others to just get on board. I question things, then do my research, make conclusions, and then look to have crucial conversations. I don’t assume I am always right. Everyone has their own beliefs and that is fine, but we should be able to work together for the good of our communities.

I am also always trying to maintain a civil dialogue with everyone, especially those who may have differing beliefs than me. We need to be able to work things out to come together, collaborate, and compromise so that we can work through our country’s and community’s issues. The disagreements back and forth on the meaning of terms or if this or that systemic issue is real, are getting us absolutely nowhere.

That’s it for now. I have so much more to share so stay tuned. :)
