Finding something Beautiful

Nearly a month ago I was given the inspiration to look for beauty my daily life, which more often than not, as a fault of the human nature, daily life feels laborious rather than luxurious a sentiment I hope to change in my 20th year.

While this idea began a month ago I’ve had an interesting beginning to 2016. Imagine the month of February was the twister from the wizard of Oz and I was Dorothy locked out of the cellar. Now that March is upon us I can awaken as Dorothy did and begin to truly appreciate and live in this European adventure I am having by documenting the beautiful things I get to experience. There will be giorni belle (beautiful days), as the Italians would say, and shitty days, as Americans might put it, but either way I will find beauty in something.

March 1st (day 19 in Italy) has been a particular lovely day, from the weather to the company and even my classes even if it began with a reservations about leaving my bed. The struggle from pajamas to running clothes was made easier as I was greeted by the simple beauty of the sun shinning through my curtains (a rarity in Urbino during February). The cobblestone streets turned to a pebbled path beneath my feet as I ran up one of the endless hills in this city of nothing but hills. I took in the sunshine on my face, the birds sweet melody and a deserted park covered in lush grass. As my eye was drawn to the famous Ducal Palace rising from the city which I could look down onto. This morning the sun silhouetted the steeples of the Palace and highlighted the landscape that stretches east beyond Urbino. The rolling hills were separated by countless fog filled valleys this morning as the crisp air had not yet warmed. The beautifully green ridge lines are soft and comforting like ocean swells before they break.

I’m thankful to have seen the land in such a peaceful state and be reminded to never stop looking for something spectacular.
