Confessions of an Android Virgin
I loved my red Palm Treo 650. It had a memory card with some of my favorite tracks. The stylus was, dare I say, dope. And of course you need a tactile keyboard on a phone.
Then came the iPhone 3, 4, and 4S. Magical. My iTunes synced, my data transferred easily, my email was in one app. I got over the keyboard. Around the time of my 5S, Apple started to strip away features of podcasts and iTunes. Then I did the 6+ because I was “locked in.” What kind of life was that? After years, I was ready to move on.
The switch? Galaxy 8 Plus. It was scary but I knew it had to be done. My friends didn’t understand me, and frankly I was a bit uncertain. Here is what I am discovering:
Pros:
I never carry a spare battery pack with me.
I never have to use Apple Maps accidentally ever again. In fact, I can make Waze my preferred map.
MMS can be done through an existing app. I chose FB Messenger and it’s gotten me back into the habit of using FB.
Cons:
Safari gave me piece of mind that my phone data was my own, and Chrome does not.
The keypad is a bit funky and I often accidentally hit the space bar.
Podcasting takes a bit of time to get used to and not everyone is on the same platform. I have to switch between Switcher and SoundCloud right now.
I randomly get MMS messages from my friends that I can not download. Weird, right?
Samsung pushes their apps and you can not remove them from your phone.
I am no longer able to FaceTime folks. FaceTime was alright, but the lack of it is a small inconvenience.
Final Thoughts
Would I do it again? Yes, but perhaps a Pixel would be a cleaner experience.
