[Movie Review] Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising (2016)

Sequel to 2014’s Neighbors (or Bad Neighbors), the main cast of Zac Efron and Seth Rogen are back!

The original film basically depicts the animosity between the fraternity helmed by Efron’s character, Teddy Sanders, and the neighbours next-door, who are none other then Rogen’s (Mac Radner) family.

As the boys from the fraternity have graduated and moved on with their own lives, Sanders is the only one still at a quarter-life crisis. Not only had he have to move out of the current home he resides at with Pete Regazolli (Dave Franco), because his best friend has just gotten engaged and wanted more privacy with his gay boyfriend who was moving in.

Now that Sanders was on his own, he has little choice but to shift back to his “fraternity” home beside the Radner’s family. The moment he bumped into the Radners, he wanted some sort of revenge for getting him a criminal’s record, which ruined his career opportunities. So he decided to lease out his house, and mentor freshmen Shelby Robek (Chloe Grace Moretz) and her newly-acquainted friends to start their very own sorority. Little did he know, he was voted to move out of the sorority when there were disagreements of how it should be ran, and he instantly jumped sides to the Radners to get even with the sorority girls.

Given that this is the second film that most of the cast and crew are coming back together, it can be easily assumed that there was not even a break from the earlier film 2 years ago. While there was no actually a need for this sequel to be made, it is actually pretty well-written that you could just watch without much reference to the first.

Chemistry between the main cast were great, and who know that there may be a third film in the works when the children of the Radners and the Blevins are all grown up.

This film is definitely for those who are fans of American slap-slick humour (way too much vulgarities for my liking though), as well as for Zac Efron (aside from his abs and biceps, his “balls” were also shown on screen.

Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising is currently available for viewing on Netflix at this time of writing.
