Tennessee softball is gearing up to host the NCAA Super Regional vs SEC foe Texas A&M.
The Vols played the Aggies a little over three weeks ago to end the regular season in College Station. A series in which the Vols came out on winning two of the three games.
Tennessee is coming off a Regional that saw them win their first game, and have a historic comeback vs USC Upstate to advance to the Regional Final were they they shutout Longwood to advance to the Super Regional for the fifth time in six years.
Vols In The Circle
Sophomore pitcher Matty Moss, 25–2 overall this year went 2–0 in the NCAA Regional. Moss had a 0.00 ERA, 15.0 innings pitched, struck out 20 batters , and had two complete games . Matty (Moss) pitching will need to pick up this weekend as they take Texas A&M.
SEC Freshman Of The Year Caylan Arnold had a solid weekend in the circle for her first NCAA Regional. Arnold 20–8 on the year, 1–0 in the NCAA Regional with 1.17 ERA, 6.0 innings pitched, and one strikeout.
Co-Head Coach Karen Weekly said that “Matty and Caylan played well this weekend, but this weekend they’ll need to do better at find their spots pitching against the Aggies”.
Meghan Gregg’s Hot Streak
Junior shortstop SEC Player Of The Year Meghan Gregg continues her hot streak .
Gregg who has a .440 batting average, 14 home runs, 77 RBIs on the year.
During the Regional Meghan Gregg’s hot streak continued with a .455 batting , three home runs , and 6 RBIs in three games.
Gregg will need to continue her hot streak to help the Vols reach the College Softball World Series .
With 77 RBIs on the year Meghan (Gregg ) is one RBI away from setting a new Tennessee single-season record.
“With all due respect to the other two ladies who held that record before her, it’s impressive that Meghan (Gregg ) has been able to do it a shorter period of time”. said Karen Weekly Tennessee Co-Head Coach .
Know The Foe
Texas A&M the No.9 overall seed in the NCAA softball tournament.
The Aggies come into the Super Regional 45–10 on the year.
The Aggies won their regional against a Texas Southern, Texas State, and Texas to advance to the Super Regional.
The player to watch for the Aggies is Junior Infielder Tori Vidales , Vidales has a .293 batting average, 16 home runs, and 44 RBIs on the year.
Prior to facing Tennessee the first time, Vidales was in a slump only batting .275 . Vidales changed some things up in how she prepares.
In the final game vs the Vols, Vidales hit three home runs and drove in all of Texas A&M 6 runs in an 8–6 loss to the Vols.
Since the Tennessee series Vidales, has hit six home runs , in the past six games.
