The timing of this piece couldn’t be better for me. I’ve been a self-employed designer for a little over 15 years now and, after a pretty rough year, find myself at a bit of a crossroads with my business. Business is okay and I’m making up for a couple of big losses, but I find myself wanting to more than what I’ve been doing. So I’m sort of in the process of just trying different things and trying to see if I can reimagine my business and include these other creative pursuits.

In the past 15 years, it’s never been easy, exactly, but right now it really is a bit of a struggle. I’m certain that my life would be wildly different had I not asked for a voluntary layoff from the agency I was working at all those years ago, but I’m just as certain that I wouldn’t be as happy as I am for making the decision.

Best of luck with the book! I’m looking forward to reading it.
