Yemenis demand that Egypt lift its new travel limits
Yemen’s government is attempting to persuade Egyptian officials to remove new travel limits that apply to Yemenis.
Due to a lack of a medical certificate from an Egyptian hospital, nearly 60 Yemeni tourists who arrived in Cairo on Sunday were refused entrance and had to depart for Yemen’s Aden airport.
Having a medical report from a Yemeni medical institution approved by the Yemeni Health Ministry is a requirement for Yemenis flying with Yemenia from Yemen to the Cairo airport. At Cairo International Airport, a passport is given to each visitor.
But over the weekend, Egyptian officials changed the requirement, demanding Yemeni travellers to obtain a legitimate medical report from an Egyptian hospital in order to access the nation.
Videos posted on social media revealed a large number of men, women, and children — including sick people — stranded at the Cairo airport with their luggage.
Officials from Yemenia claimed that after Yemenia flight 601 departed from Aden airport for Cairo, Egyptian authorities informed the carrier of the new rules.
