Thank you for writing this. I left Facebook about two months ago in an attempt to find genuine privacy. It was initially very difficult to remove myself from ‘the feed.’ The biggest question I was left with was ‘what do I DO now??’
Well, I started finding blogs to follow, and I got back into the habit of buying books. I found myself choosing to be outdoors more. I’m running more. I’m actively seeking new things instead of relying on Facebook to place it in my lap. I’m more aware of my surroundings and actually present for everything I’m involved in. I’m happy, and I dont even have the desire to make a post about it (as I ironically type this comment).
I’m also proud of myself for no longer being one of those people who start conversations with ‘….did you see what so-and-so posted on Facebook??’
I agree with you that Facebook has become a problem. It turns us into monsters. It turns us against each other. It allows us to create these publicized cliques that excludes others while flaunting. It causes us to feel entitled to look into other people’s lives and form an opinion of every aspect of those lives. It brings out the worst in us.
