SON LUX

Sheer Uncertainty

Son Lux is the original creation of musical prodigy Ryan Lott. Based in New York City, it began as a solo project in 2008 with a straightforward experimental mix of electronic sounds and live instruments alongside Lott’s unmistakeable voice.
In 2013 the EP Lanterns was released with a much more mature sound layered with live instruments and a signature mix of brass winds. At this point Lott began to realize the need to Tour so he formed a “temporal band” to help him promote the Lanterns Album.

This is Alternate World from the Lanterns Album directed by Truman & Cooper circa 2013.

Son Lux’s touring temporal band was formed by Ryan Lott in Vocals & Keyboards, Rafiq Bathia in guitar and Ian Chang in Drums, the chemistry of the band was so good that the three of them got together as a permanent trio to create Son Lux’s fourth EP BONES, one of the best Audio Productions of 2015.

A year later in 2016, Son Lux released their fifth EP titled STRANGER FORMS, a collection of rewrites and redos from their previous album, which has one of the best remakes I have ever heard of a song by the same band that originally made it, featuring Hanna Benn (composer and founding member of Pollens) and a fascinating display of Brass winds that explode all over the place, “You Don’t Own Me” stands as a renamed, revamped and evolved into an amazing version of “You Don’t Know me”.
Prepare for puking rainbows in 3,2,1:

Son Lux is definetly breaking all the rules of the game and delivering such an innovative sound that they deserve all the attention they can handle.

Bonus: here’s an amazingly beautiful performance by Son Lux at NPR Music Tiny Desk Concerts you cannot live without.
