Why don’t you try this to win that?
Somedays ago I called a private construction company support to get some information and amazed by the behaviour of the guy on the phone, rude, non-collaborative and to some extent non-sense. What I was expecting was how I go handled by my bank phone support. The point amazed me most, was that both were private limited so why that much difference. I felt that I dealt with some semi-government guy as the behaviour there was a mixture of how a govt. officer behaves (rude) and how a private company representative does (polite). I thought that maybe an accident.
Today I head to the main head office of that construction company and came to know the overall environment and behaviours of employees were the same level what I got from that online support.
Before that event, I always thought privatisation and competition lead to good quality. That experience forced me to change the mind. Probably those support guys were not afraid to lose their jobs or to get some monetised punishment.
As a mentor/businessmen/parent, you’ve to understand motivation comes from a combination of fear and reward. Since you’ve to deal with subordinates/clients/children to show them better ways. You’ve to motivate them using that combination. That short-term perspective shift will lead to broader, the long-term win-win situation between you and the significant other.
