Bernie is new to black issues? This is just a talking point and not at all true. But let’s put that aside for the moment. I want to answer your concern about how supporting Bernie “seems to mean discrediting the work this woman, and notable feminists, have done for the past 60 years.” change ‘discredits’ to ‘outshines’ and then you’ll have an accurate view, at least from my standpoint, of the situation.
The words we use are important here, because I do not think any less of HRC and I don’t feel she’s been in any way discredited or that her work means less than it did before this campaign. When you say that, it makes her seem like a victim, but I’m not attacking her record. I’m saying it isn’t enough.
Bernie is the radical I’ve been waiting for, that many of us have been waiting for, for a long time. If she were up against Joe Biden or John Kerry or pretty much any other Democrat you can name, I would feel a lot differently. I was for Hillary against Obama in the 2008 primaries. But Bernie is the one we’ve watched over the years telling it like it is on TV news shows while Hillary has assimilated and equivocated, aligning herself with the corrupting influence of big money to the point where now she has no credible leg to stand on. She’s part of the system. And yes, she’s worked within that system for change, but that’s just not what a lot of people want anymore.
