Get Motivated for Monday and Set Yourself Up for a Fabulously Successful Week
Monday has become the downer day of the week. For some the downer starts on Sunday, because they spend the whole day remembering that once the sun sets they are hours away from another Monday. When did it start to be the thing to hate on Mondays? It’s a beginning, it’s a new start, it’s full of opportunities, so why all the dread and whining about facing Monday?
What’s the alternative? Skip Mondays? If so, then I have a feeling Tuesday would start being a horrible day, just like Monday used to be. It seems that it really isn’t that Monday is a problem, it’s the habit we have in facing Monday with dread.
It’s true your time is no longer your own come Monday. It’s true you don’t get to work on the projects you have waiting for you at home, and instead you have to do the ones waiting for you at work. You can’t sleep in if you want to either. Yet, Monday is the day you get to walk back into your career.
Have you forgotten that at one time you were eager and excited about the possibility of getting your job? When you were waiting to find out if you would get the job you have now were you excited about it? The job you have right now surely can’t be the reason you’re dreading Monday. Wasn’t it what you wanted, hoped for, and needed? Maybe all you need to do is remember why you started the job to begin with to have a new outlook about Mondays.
Hate your job? Then why are you still there? Don’t make excuses. Make changes and create the opportunities you need to get a different one.
It’s so easy to get into a habit of hating on something. Have you become a Monday bully? Do you spend the whole day with a kink in your chest refusing to enjoy a single moment and spreading your negativity among everyone else? Why? Is that really how you want to spend your time, how you want to waste a day in your life? Change your attitude.
Maybe a quick attitude adjustment would happen if you considered a small change to make you look upon Mondays different. Start allowing yourself one special treat on Mondays and no other day of the week. Do you like stopping by a favorite coffee shop on the way to work? Then only do it on Mondays for six weeks. You will save money taking your own coffee and you’ll start enjoying Monday a bit more because you get to enjoy something special on that day of the week. Isn’t that why we love Fridays and Saturdays so much? Turn the tables and make Monday a fun day as well.
Perhaps all you need for a change of attitude is to consider what if you truly had nowhere to go on Monday morning? Trust me, there are plenty of people out there that would love to take your place, your paycheck, and your opportunities. Do a quick review of what your job means to you and nudge your attitude toward the positive side.
If you are the business owner, consider making Monday casual instead of Friday. You might discover a better morale and attitude within your team. Let everyone come in earlier on Mondays and leave earlier, rather than cutting out early on Friday. Really Friday has its own rewards, so there isn’t any need to make it better at work, instead make Monday the day of the week with perks.
Put changes in place to make your Monday fabulous. Go to bed early on Sunday and get plenty of rest. Put out your clothes like you used to when you were younger. Get everything organized that you will need to walk out the door so that Monday morning is less stressful.
Give yourself extra time to get ready (if you go to bed early this is easy). Don’t turn on the news when you wake up. Put on music and dance around singing with the music while you shower, get dressed, and as you are walking out the door. I’m not kidding, sing yourself silly.
Smile at people you encounter on the way to work. We all know you aren’t the only Monday hater out there. Guard your attitude and protect it, keep it positive, and share your positivity with others.
Once you’re at work focus. Don’t get caught up in chatter and gossip, or sharing details about the weekend. Get to your work immediately and you’ll be energized to keep focused and moving forward. Experts have proven that getting right to work can make you feel less resentful or unhappy at your job. The reason is because you feel satisfaction in your effort and have fulfilled your purpose.
Don’t spoil your Sunday worrying about Monday. Use Sunday as a springboard to make Monday exactly what it is — a new beginning, a new chance to create opportunities and success in your career. If you start out going strong and keep up the momentum, then Friday will be much more satisfying. Your attitude will have changed. Your mindset will be focused on success and balance. You will be enjoying all of the days of your life — including Mondays.
Do what it takes to make your Mondays fabulous. There really are so few of them each year, exactly one left in 2015 and only 52 in 2016. Why hate on a day with so much potential? Get in there and do it — start loving your Mondays — make it happen.
