I wrote this letter for you because I know how much depression hurts. And I know what it's like to be genuinely alone. I wrote this letter for you, and for anyone else lost in the darkness and pain you can't begin to describe.

Because of every dark place where I've been, there are all these things I need you to know:

How simply hanging on can be the hardest thing in the world to do. And no, people who’ve never had to do it will never truly understand. They will wonder why you can’t just pick up the pieces and move on. They will question how your grief can even be real when it’s deeper than the ocean.

But there are so many things you should know about your suffering and even those silent screams which you think no one hears.

You are not the only one.

In fact, I hear those cries.

I know you feel alone just like I have often felt alone. I know what it’s like to feel everything so deeply — too deeply — and also feel that it’s more than a little unfair when you find out that everyone else isn’t wired just like you.

Wired for pain.

I know how much it aches to hear people say you’re not alone but then go along their own…
