Dreamin’ with Langston and Lennon

I have a yearning for a virtual community with the mission of developing and cultivating the dreams of it’s members. A space to foster confidence and courage in others in order to help them define their wildest dreams/life goals and go after them. These dreams could be things deeply rooted in one’s core values, but should not exclude those possibly trivial items that are superficially gratifying. For some that could mean going back to school to finish a degree, for others it could mean simply crocheting a large quilt (which is one of my newest personal goals :-). This dreamers “think tank” would require it’s members to undertake diligent work toward vulnerability, authenticity and connection; being open to coaching by their own peers about potentially sensitive desires in their life.

I think of following and achieving your dreams is like getting a running start, then jumping forward and reaching out to grasp the border of your comfort zone. Only then can one propel herself forward by spinning over the bar of the glass ceiling. Finally, with support and encouragement she’ll “STICK IT” by rising straight up in the promiseland like an Olympic gymnast on the uneven bars.

I believe John Lennon shared my sentiments before he was so tragically murdered. The lyrics from his song “Imagine” read: “You may say that I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one. I hope someday you will join us, and we all will be as one.” My imaginary dream community could be a fantastic tool to help people put themselves out there with purpose and passion. A chance to challenge ourselves to dig deeper. Dig deeper to identify our dreams, define our aspirations and JUST DO IT. My hope is for a (social) network of dreamers with enthusiasm and fervor for change. Folks could be striving for public service or looking for a way to get “unstuck” in their personal growth. This dreamers club will give VIP access to those who are open to actively investing in the achievement of their peers, old friends, new acquaintances and even perfect strangers. There is so much power in human connection. How delightful would it be to use that power for the greater good? As Langston Hughes wrote in his poem, Dreams:

Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.
