Interviewing at GHC — Interview Preparation

I have been attending and speaking Grace Hopper Conference since 2015 and this year I presented my 5th workshop at GHC on the topic of “Writing Effective Self and Peer Evaluations”. If you are planning to attend GHC looking for your next opportunity, I hope this would help you.

Step 3: Prepare for the interviews

Spectacular performance is always preceded by unspectacular preparation. Failing to prepare is preparing to fail!

Whether or not you have interviews scheduled beforehand, prepare to be interviewed on the spot — practice in a way that would be similar to an actual interview.

Doing well in an interview depends on your preparation in 2 broad areas.

Technical Skills

  • Know your languages — Know at least 1 coding language well enough to answer coding questions during the interview. Java, Ruby, Python, C++, C are all good languages. For data science, python and R work well.
  • Know your data structures — At bare minimum, know how to use array, linked lists and stacks. More points if you know tree…
