Why Physicists Are Saying Consciousness Is A State Of Matter, Like a Solid, A Liquid Or A Gas

I recently published an article in Cosmos & History in which I briefly point out that quantum mechanics and fluid dynamics are directly interchangeable.

This perspective leads directly into interpreting the work of John Bush (Also MIT) on quantum hydrodynamic analogs - shown in the silicon oildrop experiments (pioneered by Couder) - as showing a new set of properties of the quantum vacuum.

From a fluid dynamics perspective of the quantum vacuum, knot theory and information systems researchers at Cambridge have developed superfluid models of the vacuum that are far superior, more complex and a better prediction of phenomena than earlier models.

These systems combined are being called the neoclassical interpretation of QM and lead directly to my paper which posits that the vacuum itself can play the role of a substrate upon which information storage and computation can occur and interact with the human brain on an electromagnetic level.

In the paper there is a novel neuroscience theory on the storage of data in the human brain that relies upon electromagnetic phenomena and furthermore that the “integration of information” as proposed by Tononi requires particular systems by which information is processed through a combination of analog and “digital” hybrid systems. I propose precisely those processes.

Specifically these systems amount to superposition of information through process of simultaneous read/write procedures which are dependent upon subtle and complex electromagnetic fields in the brain. Passing fields, which are captured by glial cells then guide the shape of dendrite growth, thus physically capturing the recorded fields. The electromagnetic wave addition which occurs as cells fire are an analog process which result in more permanent “digital” storage through the growth of dendrites.

This means that the firing timing and sequence of neurons create a complex electromagnetic field which compose a single conscious moment (which also impact the action potential of the firing sequence of the next conscious moment) which is guided by the physical position of the neurons which are firing. This sequence leaves an imprint upon the glia, which is the analog processed superposition of all information accessed in a moment and then leads to physical recording via guidance of dendrite growth.

Read, write, and process in one procedure.

The theory allows for also integrating the new properties of the superfluid medium but I digress…
