The goal of this litepaper is to allow you to better understand the core concepts of Shogunate PVP game without having to deep-dive and read through the entire whitepaper.

Introduction:
The Shogunate collection is an NFT collection of 7777 Samurai and 5 Shoguns. It is the core of a series of upcoming games developed by us, starting with the Shogunate Arena. The primary focus of the collection is to deliver generative art of high quality. With that goal in mind, we have drawn inspiration from historical figures, clothing, armory and weaponry, and we have manually curated the layers to ensure they blend together as best as possible.

The NFTs:
Shoguns — Shoguns are the rarest items of the collection. There are only 5 of them and they are 1/1 clan leaders. At the end of every Season, the Shogun of the winning Clan can claim 5% of his Clan’s Treasury.
Samurai — There are 7777 Samurai within the Shogunate collection and each is assigned to one of the five clans led by one of the Shoguns. During the Preparation Phase, Fighters can decide to swear allegiance to their Shogun.
- If they do swear allegiance, they will benefit from a clan-wide 15% Skill XP bonus, but 10% of their earned TOKU is sent to their Clan Treasury.
- If they decide not to swear allegiance, they do not receive a clan bonus but keep 100% of their earned TOKU.

The CORE of Shogunate:
At the core of Shogunate it is all about earning TOKU or (Tokugawa). There are two main ways to earn Toku:
1. Fighting in the Arena (Active Gameplay) (Cost 1 TOKU each fight)
2. Preparing a defensive setup (Passive gameplay). During the Preparation Phase, Players can set up the defense strategy of their Fighters for free. That strategy will be applied when other Fighters of the Arena attack them.

The Gameplay

The core gameplay of Shogunate is similar to the game of Rock, Paper, Scissors, a game we all know and love. Whether you are defending or attacking you should pick moves you think will counter opponent choices. However in Shogunate an Attacker only loses to 1 of the 3 defense moves. So essentially instead of Win/Lose/Draw. It’s Win/Win/Lose if you are an attacker.

Here are the basics:

Phases
Each Season (A season is 4 weeks) is split in three phases:
● A short Preparation Phase (1 day during the beta, 2 days after release)
● A long Action Phase (5 days during the beta, 24 days after release),
● An Ending Phase (1 day during the beta, 2 days after release).

Three Offensive Moves:
1. Powerful Hit Wins Against Parry & Counter Attack. (Loses against Dodge)
2. Quick Hit Wins Against Parry & Dodge (Loses against Counter Attack)
3. Precise Hit Wins against Counter Attack & Dodge (Loses against Parry)

Three Defensive Moves:
1. Dodge defeats Powerful hit.
2. Parry defeats Precise hit.
3. Counter Attack defeats Quick Hit.

ATTACKING (ACTIVE GAMEPLAY) AND DEFENDING (PASSIVE GAMEPLAY)

In Shogunate there is Attack and Defense. Attack is the active gameplay that needs you to be connected and actually playing, while defense is the passive gameplay where you just need to setup your Samurai moves so he can defend himself while you are away.

Attacking (Active Gameplay):
● Cost 1 TOKU * Fight Multiplier.
● Maximum of 1 Fight per hour.
● Increased fight rewards (Fight Multiplier) (View Fight Multiplier section in full whitepaper for more details).

Once an opponent has been chosen, Players must decide on the Attack Plan of their Fighters. To do so, they have access to all of their opponent’s details, including their Skill Levels and their Defense Strategy. The fight is made of 5 rounds, players must select one of the three Attack moves for each round (among Powerful Hit, Quick Hit, or Precise Hit).

The fighter with the most wins at the end of 5 rounds is the winner of the fight!

Defending (Passive Gameplay):
During the Preparation Phase, Players can set up the defense strategy of their Fighters for free. That strategy will be applied when other Fighters of the Arena attack them. The defense strategy is based on probabilities: For each round, Players must select a set of 3 probabilities, one for each move. When attacked, defensive moves are randomly selected according to the chosen probabilities.

In other words, your defense setup is just about you setting the probabilities for your defensive moves to be selected. On defense your fighter has 3 options “Parry”, “Dodge”, or “Counter Attack”, you are the one to select what are the probabilities for each move to be triggered for every round of the fight.

Example: Notice a lot of people are choosing Powerful Hits as their attack in the arena? Adjust your defensive strategy to go more heavy on “Dodge” to win against those attacking with Powerful Hits. So instead of let’s say 33% of Dodge, you could increase it to 60%.

ROUNDS

Each fight in the Shogunate Area consists of 5 rounds. Each round has a score multiplier that increases per round; therefore, the later rounds are critical and generate more points.

Round Multipliers:
● Round 1: x1.00 Multiplier
● Round 2: x1.20 Multiplier
● Round 3: x1.44 Multiplier
● Round 4: x1.73 Multiplier
● Round 5: x2.07 Multiplier

Score:
50 Points for winning the round * Round Multiplier.
10 Points if you lose the round * Round Multiplier.
5 Points if you choose the Riskiest move * Round Multiplier.
50 Points for winning the fight.
20 Points if you lose the fight.
100 Points if you win every single round.
10 Points if you choose every single move within the fight.

XP:
You also earn XP during a fight. Earning XP will unlock skill points, which you can spend to increase your Skill Levels. Higher Skill Levels give you more chances of winning, by increasing (as a defender) or reducing (as an attacker) the risk of critical failure of offensive moves.

SKILL POINTS

Each move is also linked to a Skill point category.

The Three Skill Point Categories:
1. Strength is linked with Powerful Hit on Attack & Parry on Defense.
2. Agility is linked with Quick Hit on Attack & Dodge on Defense.
3. Dexterity is linked with Precise Hit on Attack & Counter Attack on Defense.
Skillpoints are a rather complex system, you can learn more about them in the full whitepaper, but essentially the higher your skill points are for each Skill Point Category the more likely you are to win your fight as you are less likely to encounter Critical Failure during your round.

REWARDS / EARNING TOKU

You earn TOKU by participating in the Shogunate Area. You can earn passively or actively. You also earn XP & Skill points while participating in the Arena. You can use these to level up your fighter which increases your chances of winning.

WAYS TO EARN TOKU (and XP Rewards):
Fighting
— Earn 2 TOKU for each fight won while Attacking.
— Earn 0.4 TOKU for each fight won while Defending.
— Earn an additional 0.5 TOKU if you win the fight while selecting all 3 moves. (Attack only) (Defense is 0.1 TOKU)
— All TOKU & XP earned during a fight is multiplied by your Fight Multiplier. So if you have a 10x Multiplier and earn 2 TOKU you will have earned 20 TOKU for that fight.
*For a complete breakdown with detailed figures, please check out the full whitepaper.

Scoreboards & Season Rewards
The Shogunate Arena uses a Season format. In the beta version, a season lasts 1 week. Once the full game is released, a Season will last 4 weeks.
Each Season has two scoreboards:
● A Fighter scoreboard with the scores of all Fighters participating in the Arena
● A Clan scoreboard with the combined scores of all Fighters of each Clan

Fighter Rewards
Each Season has a 300k $TOKU prize pool to reward players proportionally to their Season performance. At the end of a Season, every participating player receives a share of the TOKU prize pool, depending on their Season performance.

MATIC Rewards
Each Season has a variable $MATIC/PDD Grand Prize Pool, funded primarily using 50% of the Shogunate Collection royalties.
● At the end of a Season, the top 100 Fighters on the Fighter scoreboard receive a share of the $MATIC/PDD Grand Prize according to the proportions described in the Full whitepaper.

CLAN Rewards
At the end of every Season, the Clan with the most points in the Clan scoreboard wins Season modifiers for the following Season:
● 5% additional TOKU rewards

WHAT IS TOKU FOR?
● The Shogunate Arena and future games charge all fees in TOKU for gameplay.
● In-game items marketplaces will charge all prices in TOKU only.
● Some of the future Shogunate sales, such as the Kinchaku sale, will charge prices in TOKU only.
● More use cases will be added as the project develops and new features are added. TOKU is the currency of the Shogunate.
