Why Jaime Lannister is one of my favourite characters on GoT

Jaime is one of the best example of personal growth on the show. From tossing off Bran off a cliff to saving Brienne from the bear, over time he continues to surprise us by changing and learning, particularly after being humbled by losing his hand.Jaime has taken a high road of redemption over the plot. Looking at his backstory, each part of his past is problematized.

Jaime has an incestuous relationship with his sister, but he’s one of the few men on the show who has been loyal to a single romantic partner. We get to know his immense love for his sister Cersei and how he sacrificed Casterly Rock just for being with her. That is the reason he threw Bran off a cliff.

Breaking an oath and killed the king he swore to protect. Yes, he broke an oath which he did only when Aerys abnegated all the responsiblities of ruling the seven kingdom. Which again was not done on his father’s orders, but rather to protect the citizens of King’s Landing from being burned alive due to madking’s tyranny. Jaime freed Tyrion and saved him from execution. He knew that what was being done to his brother was wrong, and subsequently let him go.He rescued Brienne from Harrenhal and also prevents Loras from killing her ,from which he had no gain at all but still did it on his own personal risk.

In the latest episode when Lady Olenna downs her poisoned wine like a boss and proceeds to use her last few moments to tell Jaime that she is responsible for his son Joffrey’s death, Jaime digests this news and still lets Lady Olenna succumb to the poison rather than running her through with his sword. At this point of the story he is a ethically improved person who has sought a way of redeeming his personality. His deeds in the past maybe unforgivable but he is on way of getting a better person morally.

Jaime does bad things, but he isn’t a bad guy. He is flawed but definitely not evil.As a fan we go from hating him to feel sorry for him and then start admiring him. If someone’s looking for some inspiration of shedding the inner ego for betterment it’s only Jaime ,which gives him a higher rank of morality amongst everyone in GoT.
