Kidnapped by Social Media

Capturing Attention in Social Media:

When it comes to capturing attention on social media, there are some key factors to keep in mind. It is important for the blogger to post something that will grab the viewer’s attention. Your title alone should have a catchy name. Having a catchy title is what will get the viewer to click on your post and read further (Sheares, 2015). Be sure to jump right into your discussion. Taking too long to get to the point will have you lose viewers faster than you can blink your eyes. Having a great visual(s) is a major plus. Many of us are visual learners, and with the perfect images alone can have your viewers stay on your post and view further (Sheares, 2015). Having a post that leads to a question can open the door for the viewers to engage in conversation with you. It will also give them a reason to come back to see if you responded or posted something new.

Maintaining Engagement in Social Media:
To be successful in keeping the viewers engaged and happy, it is best to post on a consistent basis (Hemley, 2013). If you’re into celebrity gossip, The Shade Room on Instagram is a perfect example as to consistency. They post multiple times a day, every day of the week, hence why they have 9.8 million followers. With it only being 10:45am, they already posted 8 times. Another way to maintain engagement is by responding to your viewers (Hemley, 2013). People like to feel like their opinions matter and know that their voices have been heard. It Is also important to have a main topic and stick to it. It will draw the viewers in more. It may not be a good look to be all over the place with your topics. If you are a haircare blogger, your viewers are expecting to see post regarding that topic.
