Our first stop is in southeastern Turkey, where an astonishing discovery emerged in the form of Göbekli Tepe. Dated to around 9600 BCE, this archaeological site astounded researchers. Massive stone pillars, some reaching up to 20 feet in height, were arranged in circular patterns. These pillars, intricately carved with exquisite animal motifs, were not just any stones; they represented the world’s earliest known temple complex.

This finding challenged existing beliefs about the development of organized religion and complex societies. Göbekli Tepe predates the construction of Stonehenge and the Egyptian pyramids by thousands of years, suggesting that the impulse to gather for sacred rituals preceded the rise of agriculture.
