Side Protocol is approaching a significant milestone; we are poised to enter the S2 stage of our roadmap next month, allowing all stakeholders to engage with Side. S2 represents the second phase of our roadmap, featuring an incentivized testnet. Participants in this testnet will receive a portion of the total token supply upon the V1 mainnet launch.

More details and tutorials about S2 will be announced during the first week of May. Before that, this blog article serves to welcome and onboard any parties interested in operating a node on the upcoming Side Chain testnets during the S2 stage.

What is the S2 Incentivized Testnet?

S2 will feature a Bitcoin-centric sidechain called Side Chain, boasting numerous bitcoin-related functions and an embedded DEX which positions the Side Chain not only as a settlement layer but also as the liquidity hub of the Bitcoin ecosystem. The S2 stage may encompass several testnets, each introducing distinct new features. More details will be released soon.

The first testnet in S2 is S2-testnet-1. Below, we will discuss how to participate in this testnet.

Timeline

April 24th, 2024: Application opens, submit your application here.

May 1st, 2024: Application closes

May 2nd, 2024: Onboarding documents will be available for the node operators on docs.side.one.

May 5th, 2024: Selected operators will be announced and will receive delegations from us.

May 6th, 2024: A point/quest system and Side Station front end will open to all users.

How to participate?

To participate and join the selected set, please follow these steps:

  1. Fill out this form to apply.
  2. Once selected, we will assign you the role of “validator” on Discord, granting access to the private channel created for selected node operators.
  3. On May 2nd, you can start setting up your nodes after the onboarding docs are released on docs.side.one.

How to be eligible for rewards?

To qualify for rewards, certain requirements must be met, and they will be distributed based on factors including uptime, performance, vulnerability identification, governance participation, stress testing, and other contributions. Failure to participate effectively as a node runner may result in reduced or no rewards. More details on the phases, goals, tasks, and rewards will be released in a separate document as the testnet progresses.

To be eligible for rewards as a node operator, KYC may be required before the mainnet launch. Additionally, certain regions, such as US-based and sanctioned entities and individuals, may be excluded from participation in this testnet.
