SikhLens Film Festival to Highlight Sikh Military Service
ACT 3: Defense Directive
ORANGE, CA—This Saturday, November 18, 2017, the world’s premier Sikh Film Festival, SikhLens, will feature a brand new screening and panel discussion called the Defense Directive (Saturday 2:30–3:30 PM).
You have seen headline news featuring Lieutenant Colonel Kamal Singh Kalsi (D.O. US Army), the first turbaned Sikh to serve in the army in more than a generation. Since then, 40 Sikhs with dastaars have joined the army. But this is the first step in a long march. Sikhs continue to be denied admission into other branches of the armed forces and health services.
The Sikh American Veterans Alliance (SAVA; pronounced “seva”) is pushing for policy change, but needs your help. What can you do to help our sons and daughters get the same opportunity without barriers? Everywhere. We want to ensure that Sikhs are also seen as “all Americans.”
This segment will include LTC Kalsi and senior policy makers from the Pentagon and Truman National Security Project, a think-tank on national security and policy.
Join us and help us eliminate these barriers to equality.
Sincerely, The Sikhlens Team
