Who is first: the egg or the chicken?
Specially for my family from IO by Roman_#7770
To my regret, I misinterpreted the terms of the contest. I thought that these are 2 different competitions: draw an egg and tell about my vision who was the first. I understand that I can’t claim WL, but it would be nice if you just read it so that my work was not in vain. Thanks!
Who came first: the egg or the chicken? A question that can escalate into a heated discussion. After all, there is no clear answer. One of the most popular opinions on this matter is the evolution of a tyrannosaurus rex into a chicken.
At this stage, I will not consider this option, but I want to think a little on this topic and offer my own. Evolution certainly plays an important role, but still I dare to suggest that the crossing of species also played an important role.
Looking ahead a little, I will give my answer to this question. Who was the first? My answer is an egg!
My theory is based on the fact that in ancient times, there were several types of dinosaurs that, when mated, could give an egg, from which a chicken could then hatch. Do you remember the donkey and the dragon from the cartoon Shrek? If it worked there, it might work here haha.
First, I needed to find two types of dinosaurs that fit my criteria, namely:
- They existed in the same period and lived on the same territory (I don’t think that these species would have met if they lived in different eras and in different countries or continents).
- They should not be large (it is unlikely that two large dinosaurs can make a small chicken).
- They don’t have to be carnivores (a chicken is not a carnivore, and therefore dinosaurs too).
- It is desirable to have at least remotely something in common with chicken :)
The search took a lot of time. If someone looks at my browser history, you might think that I am preparing for a thesis on some dinosaur topic. As a result, two types of dinosaurs fell under my criteria. The first is Ornithomimus. The second is Albertonykus borealis (yes, for some reason there is no easier name in Google).
They both existed in the Late Cretaceous in what is now North America. Their dimensions were relatively small, their length was less than two meters and one meter, respectively. For comparison, the length of the tyrannosaurus could reach 13 meters. These dinosaurs were largely herbivorous. Suitable food could include insects, crustaceans, fruits, leaves, branches, eggs and meat from lizards and small mammals. They also had plumage.
I understand that if you cross these two species, then it is unlikely that we will get a chicken. But let’s imagine that first their eggs hatch into a new species, not like these dinosaurs, but more like our target. Therefore, several such new species will again have a new species. Over time, their plumage will become thicker, the size will decrease much, the neck will become shorter. And one fine day, these dinosaurs will have an egg, from which there will be the first chicken, as we know it in our time. And evolution will stop.
Thank you if you’ve read to the end. It was informative to learn something new about the inhabitants of our planet in ancient times, while choosing the species that suited me.
I hope you liked it too. Have a good day.
IO is the best.
