How to take care of Micro Braids

Do’s of Micro Braids Hairstyle:

  • Get your Hair Ready Before Braiding:The very first thing that you need to do before you get these micro braids is to get your hair ready. This means that your hair should be washed, conditioned deeply, dried and also detangled. De-tangling your hair is quite important as this will allow the person braiding your hair to make your braids in an efficient manner. De-tangling your hair will also help you in saving time.
  • You need to make completely sure that your hair is not only clean but also moisturized properlybefore the start of the braiding process. You need to wash the hair with a great shampoo on a daily basis because these braids hold moisture fairly well.
  • Choosing of the braid stylist is the most important part and should be done in a careful manner. You need to make sure that the braider that you have chosen does not make such a braid that is extremely tight specifically those braids that are made along the sides and edges. This is because braids that are too tight can lead to a disease known as Traction Alopecia and can also possibly lead to a permanent loss of hair. A tight braid can also lead to balding hence the micro braids shouldn’t be uncomfortable. Ask your braider to be gentle while he or she is braiding the hair.
  • You should have enough of extensions for your hair even before you start getting the braids done. One good advice is that you should consult a professional and ask him or her about the number of packs that you would need for the hairstyle. Great emphasis is put on this point because you wouldn’t want to run out of hair extensions in the middle of your hair style.
  • Once you have the braided hairstyle done and complete, you need to keep on washing and conditioning the hair, as well as the scalp while you are wearing these braids. However, take extra care that you are gentle. You should also massage the scalp while you are shampooing your hair and conditioning them.
  • You need to keep moisturizing your hair with a good quality of oils to keep the braids completely healthy.
  • Before you go to sleep, you should cover your head with a silk or a satin scarf as this will help in keeping the braids tidy and neat.
  • You should wear the micro braids in different styles and not just use one style over and over again. If you do get the same style often, then a good amount of tension will be created on some specific parts of the head which can lead to the loss of hair.

Don’ts of Micro Braids:

  • You should not be using products that are heavy for your hair such as hair grease and hair gels. This is because these products create a buildup within your hair which gets trapped not only in the braids but also in the hair overall. As a result, this can cause the breakage of hair and can also cause knotting when you decide to take down your braids.
  • You should not leave your hair braided for more than two months in one go. If the growth of new hair causes your braids to be pulled down and also weighs down your hair, then it is time for you to take down your braids. The tension caused by all of this can lead to a serious breaking of hair as well as great amount of hair loss. Moreover, you also need to give some space to your natural hair for breathing.
  • You should not apply any relaxer before you get your hair braided. This is because relaxers and perms weaken the hair which as a consequence, will cause the braids to slag completely.
  • You should not braid the small baby hair that you have. The primary reason behind this is that these hairs are extremely fine and quite delicate. The pull that is exerted on these baby hairs is too much and as a result, the baby hair starts to pull slowly And, if you end up losing the baby hair, then they might not grow again.
  • You should not be pulling your hair into a ponytail tightly. This is because pulling at them too tightly might cause your hair to be pulled out from the edges. Most of the time, the hair does not grow back.
  • You need to make sure that you do not make use of those cheap conditioners as well as cheap shampoos. The reason behind this is the fact that cheap shampoos have a stripping effect on the hair because of which the hair is stripped off of all the nutrients. You should use the same shampoo that you have been using and the one which works the best for you in normal cases.
  • You should not go to sleep while your hair is wet. You need to ensure that your head is entirely dry before you go to sleep. Be mindful of the hair extensions as they can hold a good amount of water while you are sleeping. This will leave a mildew smell to develop in your hair. Moreover, wet hair can also lead to damage, or you might just end up with a cold.
