4 Ways to be Unforgettable

Why are some people magnetic? Others, not. Why are we attracted to someone leaders, while repulsed by others? Why do some people spark our imagination, leave their mark, while many we simply forget?

Being memorable it seems is critical not just in your professional life but for every encounter. Being memorable is a footprint on the mind of another. They could be a customer, peer or future employer it does not matter. Having an indelible impact is the foundation of influence. Right or wrong. A mark has been made: a memory created.

Here are four ways you can become unforgettable.

1. Start positive…leave with results

No one likes a purveyor of doom. Negative people leave us feeling worse about any situation. Like a millstone, they can pull us down.

In contrast, as a leader choose to enter every encounter with positive energy. Choose, the energy you wish radiate. The energy you want to be infectious.

Even if you are having a terrible day, start each encounter afresh. Set the tone, create a connection. Seek a mutual solution.

It does not mean you ignore difficulties. In fact, facing reality is the mark of a leader. However, it is your ability to shape and reframe the discussion that can determine the outcome.

The point is not to marinate on the problem. Instead, being positive from the outset creates a dynamic that drives toward a solution. It helps you achieve the result you desire.

2. Give Your Big Idea

Ideas are not gold bullion: to be hoarded. To have life ideas must be shared. Learn to collect, refine and share one idea in each encounter.

Maybe it is an idea about product, service or new way of thinking. It does not matter. The fact is you are giving value –an idea- for free without an expectation of return.

Remember, though not all ideas are equal. Many are trivial. Some are even ridiculous.

So share your “big” idea. The idea they will shape our lives. It is not an ego trip. It is your contribution to our betterment.

3. Move to the Listener

Ego is deaf to persuasion. Being self-centred rarely influences. If you are to be remembered at all, it will mostly probably be in negative.

Instead, walk toward your listener. Take note of their word choice, tone and emotions. What aspects of the conversation seems to excite them? What elements, do you perceive bore, confuse or even horrify your listener?

Being observant to their reactions enables you to adjust your language, emotions, and words. What you emphasis will change. How you act. How you talk.

After all, building rapport -being memorable- is more than a two-way conversation it is emotionally intelligent one.

4. Declare Your Passion

Passion is at the root of charisma. Being compelling and unforgettable is about exuding passion. It is your unique and relentless drive to create, build and change our lives.

The source of your passion is irrelevant. Whether you are entrepreneur, artist or activist, it is your passion that acts as a magnetic pulling others toward you.

Your passion is your stake in the ground, your declaration of what is most important and why we should follow you. Look at the heart of every great company, social movements or change there is a passionate leader. Someone who inspires through the passion they radiate.

Even if someone does not agree with you, your passion can be undeniable. You may not persuade during this encounter. However, you had an impact. You planted the seed in another’s mind: a memory created. An unforgettable link between your passion and being a leader of great change.
