How My Toddler Reminded Me That Race Is Still MY Issue
Danielle Lovell Jones

My family has many colors and I’ve noticed that many people don’t know how to address the issue. They’re uncomfortable naming the differences, as if in the naming it becomes more obvious. Except, it’s visual and it’s obvious! It’s important that all of our children know that they are beautiful on the inside and outside — no matter the color, size, talents, abilities, intelligence or any other objective/subjective means we use to judge each other and ourselves. And that starts when we, as mothers, believe that WE are beautiful just the way we’re made — hard to communicate that our children are beautiful when they watch us feeling less than that.
