Lead Types: Straight news, immediate identification, delayed identification (blind)

Lead Sentence:

  • 25–35 words
  • Stands alone
  • A strong clear statement that unifies the rest of the story
  • Include who, what, when, and where

2nd Paragraph:

  • Take an aspect of the lead and expand on it

Body of the Story:

  • More details
  • More facts
  • Context
  • Attribution: (telling audience where info comes from) direct quotes and indirect quotes. “Words,” name said.
