I wasn't arguing for closure/contraction of a Gaelic channel: more an expansion of original programming on Alba into scots culture.

The relative cost of Alba is no protection when 605m is being clawed back: the scythe hangs over BBC4, 6Music, the News Channel, s4C investment and none of them are spendy.

Alba needs to demonstrate a regular loyal diverse audience. Showing Scottish footie on Alba is a cynical version of this; the trouble is that Alba and scottish football matches can be easily separated back into their constituent parts. A culture channel would be a more blended offering where viewers might be drawn in by a programme like Karen Guthrie’s, then stay for a Gaelic documentary about Norman McLean. And vice versa.
