Here’s another take: The problem with the “Walled-Garden” is they still work. We are looking at the wrong gate, streaming services are not yet the “Walled-Garden”, perhaps in the future. Because online the real scarcity isn’t distribution, it is attention. The gatekeeper today is still the radio, specifically terrestrial radio. And the top record labels still control what get’s played on the radio via payola.
