Release of the Epic Dj Movie hmmm really???

This week sees the announcement of a movie called “We Are Your Friends” which bases it’s story line on the life of a Dj’s rise to fame , one gripe I have about this is its a Hollywood based production which it automatically gets to inflate the storyline and belief on what transpires in the life of some that choose to follow the path to Deejayhood selling it off as a life of of instant rockstar all you need is a laptop just add water formula , and then to top it off with some icing of strategically casting Zac Effron as the lead role wraps it up for a perfect sell off to get the women pulses fluttering and heading to the big screens, unfortunately turning it to another sham of misguided understanding of this industry that so many of us unconditionally contribute to through a tireless addiction to their art and music, I might be to early to judge as I have not yet seen the movie and only base my thoughts on the 3 min trailer that they have placed up for viewing as its release date is set for August

But my reasoning for this slight spurt of putting my thoughts to paper runs a little deeper in that a week prior to this announcement of this movie I came across another announcement of another new Dj life movie called EDEN being released in June of which I also only have watched the trailer but which had a different reaction to my inner being , in that little time of 3 minutes of the trailer somehow seemed to have a much more serious connection to me even to the extent that I jumped up ran to my wife and played it for her and even she felt the connection , you see I’m no guru at this Dj’ing game so no one should take what I say to seriously but I have been in this game for just a little over 20 years of which my wife has been a major part of it too… my journey that is and some how this trailer of EDEN in justless than 3 minutes seemed to give me and my wife an instant life flash before our I eyes moment of how my Dj music journey has been riden out,it seems to have a deeper and more soul touching story

you see the Hollywood movie is based completely on fiction of the lifestyles of the rich and famous and based on facts what the media giants sell and trend surf in to society and Hollywood has jumped on that trend upon the EDM explosion , where as the latter movie was co-written and directed by Mia Hansen-Love a french movie director who just happened to be the younger sister of Sven Hansen-Løve (Sven Love) who was a successful DJ in the 90s and who was the inspiration and the other co-writer for her film, this tends to sit well with me because there is that very close connection of expeirences by someone that was present in the lifestyle of being a Dj in the scenes even if it was back in the 90s.

The sad truth that in today’s world the bling and rockstar lifestyle storyline will sit better with those that frequent the big movies houses to get a fix of fantasy , the true life fact filled movies with true grit and story depth will be left to your more intelectual searching ,niche cinema visiting individual or alternate movie buyer,and that where I want people to get the take note of the alternate story the soul bearing story I hope the movie EDEN sparks enough interest in South Africa to hopefully have the Noveau Cinemas give us the opportunity to experience EDEN in their cinemas , you be the judge and set your praise on which movie you think deserves the light , for now I’m sticking with EDEN as my 20 year plus journey has given that connection with what I’ve seen .
