While kids may prefer to play video games or wath movies, motivating them to read books will stimulate their brains in a way other activities can’t. It’s scientifically proven that reading books enhances the brain’s short term and long-term memory.
The important thing is to actully show your child that reading can be fun — it makes you think creatively and helps you discover new worlds. It doesn’t matter whether your kid will prefer comic books, fairytales, little reading every day can be great. Reading is not only good for mental health but even helpful for their spelling comprehension and literature classes.

If your kid is going to spend summer mostly at home, make sure they don’t lose their time. If your kid is a fan of computer games, encourage them to play more educational games, not brainless games full of violence. It’s a myth that gaming is not good for your kid. Moderation is key here.
Go somewhere
Leave the TV for the winter days and head outside. Visiting a new place or even country will add colour to our kids summer. We should take advantage of the good weather as much as possible because when school starts our opportunities will be limited. Take your kid to some sightseeing, visit a popular historical or natural site, museum, zoopark, theme park, theatre, etc. This experience will enhance their overall knowledge about the world and different cultures and give them unforgettable memories. It can also help them long-lasitng relationship with nature.
Practice

Make it funny and make your kid perceive it as something which will be helpful for their next school year.
Don’t forget it’s important to allow plenty of free play time for you kid too. This is essential for the healthy development of every kid and helps them turn into a successful grown-up.
