  1. Studying movies ( Not just watching, studying)

I took a class about movie history in college and to be honest I didn’t even really want to. In the end, I learned that movies are exploding with meaning and references that you won’t get if you’re just watching them for fun. Now every movie I watch ends up running around my head as I think about the history, meaning, references, and messages that it was made to represent. You can do a quick google search and find intriguing facts about movies as well as theories and a wide range of perspectives from others.

2. Exploring

When I say exploring, I don’t mean that you have to explore places no one has ever been to before, although that would be fun as well. What I mean is that the world is massive. Think about all of the places you’ve never been even within just a short distance from your house. Depending on where you live you could have so many options for exploring. Hiking, climbing, walking through a park, around a lake, under a bridge. The world around you has so much to offer if you just put in the effort to explore it.

3. Reading

Reading is something so diverse and so easily accessible with physical books as well as online books covering just about every topic imaginable. Books can be used to help you progress in your career, escape to an imaginary world, learn about another culture and the list goes on and on. If you find you don’t like one genre of books or even one author, there are a million more you can try.

4. Cooking

Cooking is a skill, a hobby, a career, and something to pass the time or aid in getting in shape. Anyone can try cooking as food is as diverse as the world itself. Through cooking culture is taught and shared, relationships are formed and people are made genuinely happy. You can try basic recipes or go for something more complex depending on your skill level and experience.

5. Writing

The incredible thing about writing is that you can write about anything. Choose to write for yourself or write so that others can enjoy and learn about the world from your point of view. Do you have another hobby you enjoy? Did you try writing about it? We can’t be professionals in everything but writing about something you enjoy doing and devote time to can be meaningful, informing, and even inspiring.

Hobbies come in many different forms, indoors, outdoors, physical, virtual, etc… Find out what you like and see where it can take you.
