Interesting thoughts… it is a problem to be considered for sure.
Honestly I’m a fan of anonimity. VR, like other internet places, is a way of escaping from our real reality… binding our virtual avatars to our real identities means having the real chains even in VR. I mean, suppose that I’m the CEO of a Silicon Valley company and I’m super-perfect all day… but inside me I’ve always dreamt of seeing what is like being a violent mafia boss. I could that in VR in a virtual world… but if people could see my real name, they could start a scandal about me liking mafia or whatever. It’s a bad example but conveys the idea. CEOs have rules they have to respect in the real world, it’s bad if they’d follow these in the virtual world too. I agree on all the harassment thing, it is a terrible issue… but IMHO some compromise has to be found.
And about facebook… they want real names just because they want to know everything about us to sell us better ads.
