Dropping In: Skateistan part of the ‘Action Impact Network’

At Skateistan we believe in the power of sports for the well-being of individuals and ultimately the world. With this in mind, we have joined forces with a consortium of international NGOs to form the ‘Action Impact Network’. A group of NGO’s who aim to collectively measure the impact of programs delivering mental and wellbeing solutions to children and youth, through participation in sport and well-being activities worldwide.
Eight organisations are part of this network, including African Yoga Project, Box Girls, Drive for Life, Grassroot Soccer, UNICEF, Skateistan, the Wave Project and Waves for Change. The network will work together to develop pragmatic indicators and data collection tools to measure the impact of youth sport for development organizations and wellbeing programs.
At Skateistan, our programs, combining skateboarding and education, empower children worldwide. But they not only provide a creative outlet and educational opportunities, they increase the wellbeing of our students, plus their social skills and cognitive development. These are some of the short term factors identified by the network. In the long-term, the network aims to prove participation in sport and embodiment activities results in decreased antisocial behaviour, increased self-care, increased community cohesion and increased livelihood and academic success. It’s amazing how sport can make an impact on lives!

Through establishing these shared short-term and long-term outcomes, the Action Impact Network supports the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and will provide structured evidence that reinforces ‘what works’ for sport for development organizations and well-being programs. This evidence will amplify all the impact of all the NGO’s part of the network to help change more lives across the globe!
We will keep you updated on the findings from being part of the Action Impact Network on our blog and through #SharedImpact on social media.
