Programs Essentials: Youth Leadership

Youth Leadership = Promising Student + Skateboards + Classroom Supplies + Educational Certificates

What is our Youth Leadership program?

Promising Skateistan students have the opportunity to become Youth Leaders! They tend to be aged between 12 and 17, but any youth part of our programs are eligible. Through the Youth Leadership program, students become the teachers and role models for the other kids at Skateistan. They help the Educators teach in the skatepark or in the classroom and organize events for the wider community. They also take part in sports, arts, and multimedia workshops, which increase their skill sets, as well as being involved in special projects such at the Global Citizen in Action. This program helps exceptional youth reach their potential and become leaders that make a better world!

What do our students think about being Youth Leaders and role models?

A Youth Leader helps another Youth Leader to drop off the ramp.

“Skateistan stands for helping children and teaching them skills, and I am an example of that. I was a student and now I am an athlete. My message to others kids is to study hard and do sports that they love.” — Youth Leader, Afghanistan.

Youth Leaders have the opportunity to bring their own interests and skills into the programs. Here they are in Cambodia doing a yoga session!

“I also want to be able help other children and motivate them to be hopeful, to fight for a good life. It’s a good thing if everyone can participate in Skateistan’s programs because it’s not easy for street kids to learn something new.” — Youth Leader, Cambodia.

A Youth Leader in South Africa helps skaters at an Outreach session in Johannesburg.

“It is important to talk to students, families, and the community about sports and education so that they may come to learn, know and love the sport and education. Skateboarding has helped me to develop a new love for sport and in a way it has helped me to discover who I am. Children of all ages now have activities like skating and learning that they can engage in after school and do not have to be bored and watch tv when they get home.” — Youth Leader, South Africa.

Join us in July. When you donate $10 or more a month, you become a Citizen of Skateistan and help make it possible for thousands of children in Afghanistan, Cambodia and South Africa to attend our programs. Donating $80 a month pays for one student in South Africa to take part in our Youth Leadership program for a whole year.
