What do I think? I think he’s right…and wrong. Being from NY and understanding the importance of being “lyrical” in a sense is a trap. We’ve gotten stuck in our ways, and for anyone who’s rapped, freestyled in New York we understand the competitive level it presents. We value words. In Houston, Florida, Alabama….Those dudes made different music. I don’t think most of it was ever lyrical. It was more mood based — chill music. Now the popular sound has seemingly adopted that and it most prominent in the music industry today.

Are lyrics gone? No. But I think it’s more of a NY thing. While you can get great lyrics from anywhere — people just don’t care.
