Defining Greatness: Individuals Are the Thing
Thursday, 9/1/16 @ 4:00 PT & 7:00 ET
What is “greatness?” Is it an achievement, exclusive to the few who meet an external bar of performance? Or is it inclusive, available to all, irrelevant of others’ accomplishments? We contend that it is the latter.
Our position is that while there are and should be objective standards to evaluate (and reward) individual performances, that performance does not define greatness qua performance.
Individuals performing far below potential are not great, even if natural ability results in measurably great performances. Nor are those providing great performance at something other than what they want to be doing. A gold medalist can be great… or not. As can the last place finisher.
Germane to the GTIdeology is if and how these ideas are relevant to business. That is the discussion we want to have with you this week.
Our 1st Radical Idea, A Radical Organization: The organization must transcend society.
Our notions of greatness are at odds with social norms and assumptions.
Contrary to those assumptions that greatness is exclusive, defined by achievement, we believe that greatness is the potential of any individual, volitionally fulfilled in a way that makes them happy.
That is the radical root of the entire GTIdeology.
We believe that of ‘Greatness through the Individual’ is created when each individual incarnates personhood and potential in pursuit of a shared vision, mission, or purpose. We exist to impact the world by creating and encouraging that greatness.
