Let’s Draw Some Triangles

I bet I can draw some triangles right now. Let’s find out.

Well okay, not right now. Nature calls.

Okay… now.

Let’s start with the drawing library — I’ve been wanting to use paper.js, so that’s a natural choice.

Let’s Stream It

It took me longer to figure out how to stream myself coding than anything else. If you want to suffer through it with me, you can check out the video at https://www.livecoding.tv/skorlir, but I don’t much advise it!

Thoughts & Highlights

My grasp of basic graphics-related geometry has slipped in the time since I last worked with HTML5 Canvas. That’s not cool.

But I did manage to make hella triangles. It only took me 2 hours to figure out streaming, paperscript, and how to do math with circumradii, but I did it.

Looks pretty trippy, doesn’t it?

I originally wanted to make a library for drawing tessellations, and this was the first research step. But maybe I’ll tone it back a bit and focus on some more intermediate shapes, for the time being. Like, maybe some pentagons, or something.

Wait — I think I’ll be disappointed if I try to tessellate pentagons. I should probably use hexagons instead. (I’m getting the hang of this geometry thing again.)

So the lesson here is, if you set your mind to it, you, too, can probably draw triangles.

And hopefully this will be useful to me in the future, when I finally get around to building my portfolio website. I had planned on having fancy animated tessellations in the header. We’ll see.

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
