When you’re on the road, you often want to capture those important moments. It’s never been easier to take a photo, whether it’s on your phone, camera or GoPro, but how do you really make it shine? Here are the best apps to really make your photos pop.

A Color Story

The folks at A Beautiful Mess really know a thing or two about making beautiful photos (just check out their blog to see what we mean). It’s no surprise that their photo editing app A Color Story is many Instagrammers’ go-to for making their photos shine. The app features an impressive number of filters (over 100), plus effects and editing tools to adjust exposure, saturation and much more.

Available on Apple’s App Store and Google Play Store

VSCO

VSCO has been leading the game for photo apps for a few years and is still one of the most effective ways to create your own stunning pictures. You can also create your own journal and connect with other users within the (ever-expanding) VSCO community. We love the step-by-step comparisons which show the different stages that contributed to your final photo — it helps you know what works best for future edits.

AfterFocus

AfterFocus really only does one thing, but it does it very well. It blurs certain parts of your photos so that you can change the focus after-the-event. It’s really useful if you have a focal point of the photo that you want to really stand out against a less interesting background. It can be a little tricky to master at first, but once you have, you will wonder how you ever lived without it.

Pixlr

You can spend endless (no, really) hours fiddling and tweaking your photos on Pixlr thanks to the vast number of filters, effects and tweaks. Pixlr is a great all-rounder — not only can you edit your pictures, but you can also create collages of images and add text as you desire. The app is very intuitive — so even the technophobes among you can jazz up your photos with ease.

Adobe Photoshop Express

It might only cover a small portion of the full desktop version of Adobe Photoshop’s capabilities but Adobe Photoshop Express is a powerful tool when it comes to editing images on your phone. You can choose from a wide range of filters (even wider if you pay for more), crop, or adjust your photos in just a few taps. Plus there are handy and very effective red-eye and blemish removal tools that really set it apart from many of the other photo-editing apps out there.
