If you are interested in helicopter games, you probably have heard of the game called C.H.A.O.S. Currently, the game is being developed into a better simulator called Skybreakers. A popular Belarusian magazine Onliner.by has published an interview with the founder of C.H.A.O.S — Vasili Veka.
How did you come up with the idea for Skybreakers?
It all began back in 2002 with the birth of the company AltWolf. Initially, we were looking for ideas — but then we created a mobile phone app that allowed users to change their phones’ melodies and wallpapers to whatever they liked. We offered the app to mobile operators MTS, A1, and Velcom, but it was discontinued.
After that, the company renewed its search for ideas and launched several trending applications at that time — dominoes, chess, word building games, etc., but at the same time still looking for new ideas. After a long-term friendship with Eagle Dynamics, I found my niche and immediately told my team that I wanted to make simulators for mobile devices. Firstly the team was somewhat scared of losing the audience of hundreds of thousands of players.
However, such a move was paramount, and after six months, a small prototype was born. The friends, family, and partners were more than satisfied. After that, I found SkyJet, which became the game’s publisher.
What were the initial most essential aspects of the game’s creation?
The process of finding an audience who wants to fly, as well as discussing the structure of our team. Not only good programmers are involved in this project, but also mathematicians, pilots, physicists, designers, etc.
How about the creative aspects?
Creativity and drawing is extremely important in these types of games. The process of map-creating, reproducing special effects such as details of the sand during take-off and landing, and more because these components are crucially essential in such simulator games. The game is available on iOs and Android, but the border between mobile platforms and PC will soon disappear, so we design the landscapes in a way that they can be used in both.
The helicopter simulators look very realistic in Skybreakers. How did you achieve this?
Simulators must be created in a way that after spending a lot of time on a simulator, you should be able to deal with the real one without encountering any problems. Of course, excessive realism might scare new players, so simplification is needed.
Where is most of your audience located up till now?
Currently, our gamers are from 30% European, 30% — North American, 40% Russian, and Chinese markets. Our most vital positions are in the Russian, Korean and Japanese markets.
With the new version, we expect to keep the existing audience at least and then ensure further growth. However, there is also a challenge with servers — we cannot install servers wherever we want.
How about any privacy related issues that you might potentially be facing?
I understand that we cannot fight pirates and illegal downloads. Nevertheless, I believe the pirates, in a way, advertise the game. Since the pirated version will have many uncorrected bugs, many people will download the official version (paid or free versions are available).
Any exciting future developements to be expected from your side?
I hope to implement various new ideas and experiments and release a new and better version of the game for PC, mobile, and AR. I am very grateful to the team of so many talented specialists I have an honor to work with. They are excellent professionals and all have extraordinary personalities.
